About The Jasper Place Health & Wellness Centre In 2006, local businessman Murray Soroka pursued a vision to help his community. His goal - to help make a lasting difference for the homeless along the once proud Stony Plain Road. From his dream, the J.P. Health & Wellness Centre (JPHAWC) at 15210 Stony Plain Road (JPHAWC) was born. Since its inception, JPHAWC has employed the Housing First model. While staff and volunteers work to provide free showers, laundry, access to internet, legal advice, food, storage and medical services, trained JPHAWC support workers stand side by side with their clients for one full year to ensure those who are housed complete the journey to staying housed. In the last year alone, JPHAWC has utilized this model to successfully transition three-hundred and fifty homeless men and women from the streets into their own residences and independent living Unfortunately, there remains an unending need to house the homeless. Praised as a model for reducing homelessness in Edmonton, the evolution of the JPHAWC must include plans for more resources to continue housing the homeless. Acquiring another building or purchasing its current location would provide more resources for those clients not able to make the long climb from homelessness into their own residences and independent living. Won’t you help make this dream a reality? |
